Do you have tired eyes? If you’ve tried eye creams, spa treatments, and cucumber slices with little success, come into STC Plastic Surgery and learn more about our eyelid lift. This surgical treatment smooths skin and rejuvenates the upper and/or lower eyelids. We often pair this treatment with other facial plastic surgery procedures like a facelift or brow lift. Our skilled plastic surgeon, Dr. Brian Machida, can restore a rested and radiant facial appearance.
Eyelid Lift Myths- What Is True and What Is False?
Eyelid surgery is one of our more popular procedures, but despite its popularity, we find that it is very misunderstood. Many of our patients have heard things about this procedure that simply aren’t true. Let’s clear up the myths and misconceptions surrounding eyelid lift surgery in the Inland Empire.
“An Eyelid Lift Will Leave an Easily Visible Scar”
Facial scarring is always a big concern for our patients considering facial plastic surgery. Many prospective eyelid lift patients worry about scars around the eye area. Although this myth is common, it is not true. The contours of the eye make it very easy to hide scars, and most patients will have no visible scarring when the eyes are open.
We place the incision for upper blepharoplasty in the crease on the upper eyelid. When the eyes are open, it isn’t easily seen. For lower blepharoplasty, we place the incision along the lash line. Dr. Machida may also place incisions inside of the eyelid, leaving no visible scar.
“Eyelid Surgery Can Treat Dark Circles Under the Eye”
An eyelid lift addresses fat bags under the eyes, puffy eyelids, and drooping eyelids, but does not treat dark circles. If you have darkness under the eyes, Dr. Machida may recommend a different procedure, like dermal fillers or facial fat transfer. These treatments are more effective for treating dark circles than an eyelid lift. They can be performed on their own or paired with blepharoplasty.
“Surgery Is the Only Way to Treat Aging in the Eye Area”
Surgery isn’t always the only option for treating facial aging. We offer several non-surgical treatment options that can address age-related concerns in the eye area. These include:
- Dermal Fillers- Shifting facial fat can lead to hollows under and around the eyes. Fillers can fill these hollows in. We also use fillers to smooth wrinkles around the eye.
- BOTOX®- If you have crow’s feet, BOTOX® can help. This treatment relaxes the muscles that cause crow’s feet, and in time, your wrinkles will fade away.
Of course, non-surgical options don’t provide the same dramatic results as blepharoplasty. These treatments are best suited to patients with mild to moderate aging that want to avoid or delay surgery. They can also be used after a surgical procedure for maintenance.
Tired eyes are common in our aging patients, but they can be treated with blepharoplasty. If you’re interested in learning more, we invite you to come in for a consultation.
